Aripiprazole helps several patients suffering from psychotic
disorders. But the drug has some side effects. Patients have to be
aware of the side effects of aripiprazole before taking the drug.
The common side effects of aripiprazole include headache, unusual
weakness, tiredness, nausea, akathisia, vomiting, constipation,
light-headedness, an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach, blurred
vision, sleepiness, sleeping trouble, restlessness and shaking. It
is better to consult the doctor if any of these side effects persist
or get worse.
Apart from these common side effects, aripiprazole also has some
uncommon side effects which include uncontrollable jerking
movements, uncontrollable twitching movements, tremors and seizures.
Some people may experience an accelerated heart rate. Some people
may experience dizziness while getting up from a lying or sitting
position. It is better to consult the doctor if these side effects
occur. These side effects are uncommon, but they are serious.
Some rare side effects of Aripiprazole include fever, muscle
stiffness, faster breathing, reduced consciousness, sweating and a
sudden change in heart rate and blood pressure. This sudden change
is known as narcoleptic malignant syndrome. Some very rare side
effects of aripiprazole include nervousness, increased production of
saliva, speech disorder, agitation, fainting, muscle stiffness,
muscle pain, inflammation of the pancreas, reports of abnormal liver
test values and allergic reactions such as swelling of the mouth,
itching and rashes. All these side effects are very rare and very
serious. Patients have to contact the doctor immediately if any of
these side effects occur.
